About the Event
For the past sixteen years, Jun Kaneko and Opera Omaha have enjoyed a wonderful creative partnership, one founded on friendship, high regard for each other’s work and a mutual fascination with the many aspects of the opera artform. The question was posed to Jun early in this relationship – “Would you ever consider designing an opera?” After many conversations, lunches, dinners and glasses of wine, Jun decided to undertake a new project- the set and costume design for Puccini’s masterpiece Madama Butterfly.
This was just the start of a new artistic exploration for Jun. He went on to create two additional productions of Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Beethoven’s Fidelio, both of which met with critical acclaim at performances throughout the country. This November, Jun’s stunning production of Madama Butterfly comes home to Omaha after gracing the stages of many renowned opera houses. This celebrated production, as well as Jun’s exquisite productions of The Magic Flute and Fidelio, have earned a place in opera history and have helped raise Opera Omaha’s profile locally and nationally.
The evening has been designed to give guests a five-star dining experience unlike any other in the region. Chef Katsu Michite, a celebrated Chef and dear friend of Ree and Jun, has curated a multi-course, Japanese inspired menu made of the finest and freshest ingredients that will enable guests to sample a variety of exquisite flavors. Come immerse yourself in a culinary and artistic feast for the senses.
