Created by Opera Omaha and the Nebraska Writers Collective, the Proving Up Poetry & Music Project invited K-12 students from Nebraska and Iowa to submit works of poetry on themes tied to Opera Omaha's world premiere of the opera Proving Up by Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek. We received 32 poems from 28 writers, all focused on the themes of The American Dream, Pioneers and Homesteaders, Ancestry and Lineage, and Journey to Nebraska. All of the submitted works are on display at KANEKO for the duration of the ONE Festival.
Local composers reviewed all of the poems, and through a blind process selected pieces to set to music. These original compositions will be premiered at the Proving Up Poetry & Music Concert on April 21st, 2018 at KANEKO as part of the ONE Festival.
Registration is encouraged, but not required, and does not guarantee seating. Please note: this concert series is more informal in nature. Seating is available on a first-come-first-serve basis, so please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you require accessible seating.
