Begun in 1962, the Craftsmans’ Guild is the longest continual support group for Opera Omaha. Craftsmans’ Guild members have
built costumes and props, hammered scenery, applied makeup and nourished starving
artists for more than forty years. The name of the Guild comes from the stagecraft skills
that the members donate to Opera Omaha in the areas of wardrobe, makeup/wigs, concessions and party. Each year, the services donated by the Guild are valued in excess of $50,000. The Craftsmans’ Guild
has been blessed with the participation of many long-standing members, some serving since the 1960s. In the early days of the Opera company,
some members also sang in the chorus and did any work needed backstage when they
were not needed onstage. Today, most of the membership is focused on meeting
the backstage needs of a production, and members still enjoy the camaraderie
and reward of helping to bring top notch performances to the Omaha community.
