On occasion, Opera Omaha offers productions that require a Children’s Chorus.
Auditions
Auditions for the Children’s Chorus are scheduled as required within the season’s repertory. Children are asked to prepare 2 contrasting vocal selections, not to exceed a total of 4 minutes. Arias, art songs, or church solos are all acceptable audition selections. An accompanist is provided. A performance résumé is suggested.
If you are interested in auditioning, please fill out the form below. Prospective members will be contacted and assigned a time slot.
Requirements
Typically, children chorus roles range from 8 to 14 years of age. Children ages 15 and above are still encouraged to audition.
Commitment
Schedule varies, depending on the production – a typical rehearsal schedule includes 1 music rehearsal a week for 5-8 weeks. In addition, 2-3 hours for staging rehearsals will be scheduled during weekday evenings, during the week prior to the production. Rehearsals take place weekday evenings (except Wednesday) and on the weekends. As a general rule, Opera Omaha strives to release children from rehearsals no later than 9:00 pm during the school week. Performances are generally Wednesday night, Friday night and Sunday afternoon.
Location
Rehearsals are held at various locations in the community. Performances are typically held at the Orpheum Theater.
