Opera Omaha | Voices Poetry Competition | In Celebration of the world premiere of The Blizzard Voices | Composed by Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Moravec | Based on the poetry of former U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser | Submit your Poem | Win Fabulous Prizes, including having your Poem set to music by a Local Popular Songwriter - Student (Elementary-High School) - Deadline: May 15, 2008 | Adult (18 and above) - Deadline: August 1, 2008

The Blizzard Voices Poetry Award Event
OMAHA VOICES in Concert

Hear the finalists and winners’ poems from each age category read by special guests such as Ted Kooser and Matt Mason, editor of PoetryMenu.com. The Black Squirrels, Mal Madrigal, McCarthy Trenching and Orenda Fink will provide musical entertainment including personalized renditions of the four winning poems.

Hear from former U.S. Poet Laureate and The Blizzard Voices librettist Ted Kooser speak about the impact of poetry and answer the questions, “Why set words to music?” The evening’s musical entertainment will feature one of the popular songwriters from the OMAHA VOICES in Concert event.
