Opera Omaha’s mission – to enrich the quality of life in our community by creating professional opera and music theater by combining the visual and performing arts to express humanity’s deepest emotions and highest aspirations – is reflected in our Community Programs goals – to enrich people’s lives through opera; to help individuals in all walks of life and degrees of artistic exposure find the personal, social or historical resonance inherent in opera; to stimulate an understanding of and interest in the classical arts among new audiences; and to use opera to inspire individuals to overcome personal obstacles and attain their highest aspirations.
As the only professional opera company in Nebraska, Opera Omaha’s Community Programs serve central and eastern Nebraska, western Iowa and the eastern Dakotas. Our Community Programs are designed to provide insights about the operas and productions in each year’s repertory in order to help educate students and the public about opera, in general, and the historical or social circumstances that motivated the composers and librettists.

Opera Omaha has three programming areas within which we create and deliver quality outreach activities:
- Education – programs for students in schools and colleges
- Opera for Everyone – programs for non-traditional audiences
- Opera Insights – free community events, talks and previews
