Choral Collaborative
Opera Omaha and the Omaha Symphony present a collaborative venture with seven area high school choirs, members of the Opera Omaha Chorus, four soloists, and musicians of the Omaha Symphony, under the direction of the Omaha Symphony Resident Conductor, Ernest Richardson. Opera Omaha Resident Music Director J. Gawf and Maestro Richardson work with each school for two weeks of individual and combined choir rehearsals. Ready, Set... Opera!
Unique and interactive, Ready, Set...Opera! is an introductory program for elementary school children. Developed by internationally experienced opera professionals and life-long educators Diane Owens and Gary Race, the 45-minute program complements the language arts, social studies and music curricula of upper elementary school. Guided by Owens through singing, dialogue and listening segments, students learn how music tells a story, cues action, and sparks the imagination through the opera art form. Students interact as scene partners, sound effects, even chorus, and participate in the famous operatic thunderstorm scene from Rossini’s opera Cinderella. The fully staged presentation is accompanied on piano by Resident Music Director J. Gawf.
